We’ve got you Mama!
The first few months of motherhood are magical — but they can also feel overwhelming, isolating, and emotionally intense. New mums are navigating physical recovery, hormonal shifts, sleep deprivation, and a complete identity change, all while learning how to care for a tiny new human.
At Story Bears, we believe mum’s wellbeing is just as much as baby development. That’s why our sessions are designed not only to support babies through music and massage, but also to gently nurture mums during those crucial early months.
A Calm, Welcoming Start — From the Moment You Arrive
Walking into a baby class for the first time can feel daunting. We know you are running on very little sleep, juggling feeds and nappies, and wondering if you’ll even make it out of the house on time.
We always start with a smile and we do our best to remember the name of you and your baby. And if you are running late, we are only ever glad you made it in the end!
As everyone arrives we offer water- first timers are often taken back by the offer! But we know after rushing about taking care of your baby all morning looking after yourself can get overlooked- maybe you haven’t had a chance to stop and drink yet or your forgot your water bottle. It’s a small detail, but one that communicates care — you’re not just another booking, you’re a person who deserves looking after too.
Built-In Down-Time to Talk, Connect and Be Heard
One of the most valuable — and often overlooked — aspects of maternal well-being is connection with other adults.
Story Bears sessions intentionally include twenty minutes of down-time with a hot drink and a biscuit, creating space for you to chat to others and share your experiences. There’s no pressure to perform, no expectation to “have it all together.” Mums can chat openly about sleep, feeding, recovery, or simply listen and nod along, knowing they’re not alone.
Through this gentle social interaction we help you to:
Reduce feelings of isolation
Normalise the ups and downs of early motherhood
Build supportive peer connections
Improve emotional well-being and confidence
Sometimes, just hearing “me too” is enough to lift a heavy day.
A Gentle Pace That Respects Postnatal Recovery
The early months are not the time for rushing or overstimulation. Story Bears sessions move at a calm, baby-led pace, allowing mums to settle, feed, cuddle, and respond to their baby’s needs without embarrassment or pressure.
This slower rhythm supports both mental health and nervous system regulation, giving mums permission to rest emotionally while still engaging in something meaningful.
Supporting Mums So They Can Support Their Babies
Research consistently shows that maternal well-being directly impacts infant development. When you feel supported, relaxed, and emotionally nourished, your baby benefits too — through stronger bonding, responsive interactions, and a calmer environment.
Story Bears takes a whole-family approach:
Supporting early literacy and bonding through massage and stories
Creating a safe, welcoming space for mums
Prioritising comfort, hydration, warmth, and conversation
Recognising that motherhood is about more than just the baby
More Than a Baby Class
Story Bears is more than a storytelling session. It’s a place where mums can land, breathe, and feel held during one of the most vulnerable and transformative times of their lives.
Whether it’s a sip of water on arrival, a warm cup of tea and a biscuit, or a quiet moment to talk with someone who understands — every detail is designed with maternal well-being in mind.
Because when mums are supported, everyone thrives.
