Bath Babies

Making early water experiences special!

A gentle introduction to water

Those first experiences with water can be such a special part of your baby's early months. Bath Babies is a gentle, nurturing sensory experience designed for babies from 6 weeks old, giving you the opportunity to slow down, connect with your baby and explore the wonderful world of water together.

Each session takes place in a warm, relaxed environment where there is no pressure for your baby to perform or achieve anything. Instead, we follow your baby's cues and allow them to experience the water at their own pace. Sometimes that might mean lots of splashing and exploring, while other times your baby may simply enjoy being held close and taking everything in.

Following your baby's lead

At Story Bears, we believe that babies are wonderfully good at telling us what they need. Bath Babies is built around responding to your baby's cues, giving you the opportunity to become even more familiar with their individual ways of communicating.

You will be encouraged to notice when your baby is engaged and ready to explore, as well as recognising when they need a pause, a cuddle or a change of activity. There is never any expectation that your baby has to join in with everything.

This makes Bath Babies a lovely first class experience for young babies — because your baby doesn't need to be able to sit, crawl or do anything independently to take part.

More than just a bath

Bath Babies combines the soothing experience of warm water with nurturing touch and carefully chosen sensory experiences. Across the course, babies are introduced to different textures, movements, sounds and sensations through simple activities designed to encourage curiosity and exploration.

You might discover how your baby responds to gentle water massage, explore the feeling of a soft ball on their feet, experiment with sprinkling water, or watch their reaction as scarves and rings are introduced into their bath.

The activities are deliberately simple. The aim isn't to overwhelm your baby with lots of stimulation, but to give them opportunities to notice, explore and respond.

A chance to connect

The early months can feel incredibly busy, and finding time simply to be together can be precious. Bath Babies gives you dedicated time to focus on your baby without the distractions of everyday life.

Through gentle touch, eye contact, movement and shared sensory experiences, you can build positive associations with water while enjoying some beautiful one-to-one time together.

You don't need to be an expert. I'll guide you through each activity and show you ways to adapt the experience according to your baby's responses.

Each course includes: Massage oil, refreshments, printed guides to take home, photo opportunities and keepsakes, PLUS a free Story Bears 4 Paws Package for baby sessions to enjoy as your baby grows!

What makes Bath Babies different?

Bath Babies isn't about teaching babies to swim, and it isn't about rushing towards the next milestone. It's about creating positive early experiences with water and giving babies the time and space to explore.

The gentle, baby-led approach means that activities can be adapted according to your baby's age, stage of development and cues on the day. If your baby isn't ready for something, that's absolutely fine. Sometimes watching, listening or having a cuddle is the perfect way for your baby to participate.

It's this combination of warm water, nurturing touch, sensory exploration and responsive parenting that makes Bath Babies such a special experience.

Whether you're looking for baby classes in North Devon, a gentle sensory class for your newborn, or simply something special to enjoy together, Bath Babies offers a beautiful introduction to early water experiences.

Come along, slow down and discover the joy of exploring water together.

My baby doesn’t like bath time- can I still take part?

If your baby usually gets unsettled during bath time, it can feel daunting to bring them along. However, this is exactly why you need to come! We will support you to find a bath time routine plus holds, moves and activities that help settle your baby. Parents report that their baby is calmer and more able to enjoy bath time after the course.

What happens if my baby is unsettled, or needs changing or feeding?

Our courses are baby-led meaning you follow your baby’s lead. We encourage you to do whatever you need to to keep your baby comfortable, and we welcome babies with all their emotions and behaviours. You can take them out the bath early or delay putting them if they are showing you they are not ready. If baby is asleep, we will offer you a doll to practise on.
